Please join us for puja at the Broome Street Ganesha Temple on April 10, 2017 at 6:30pm, on the occasion of Chaitra Poornima.
Chitragupta, who is an assistant to Lord Yama, is the record keeper of karma – good and bad deeds - of every human being on Earth. It is believed that Lord Yama, who is the redeemer of the soul, gives the appropriate karmaphal (reward for your actions), based on the meticulous records kept by Chitragupta. The purpose of our worship on this day will be to seek blessings of the Lord Yama to reduce our past sins, cleanse our karmas and acquire higher energy.
According to the Hindu lunar calendar, the first full moon day of the year is known as Chaitra Poornima. It comes after Ugadi or Gudi Padwa (traditional New Year for Hindus). The powerful Star, Chitra, ascends on this Full Moon day, and is particularly sacred to Chitragupta. Hence, to dissolve their past sins with sincerity and devotion, on this day, people bathe in holy rivers like Ganga and Yamuna, and pray to Chitragupta.
This year Chaitra Poornima falls on Monday, April 10th. Puja begins promptly at 6:30pm:
- Lord Ganesha Puja
- Navagraha Puja
- Sri Satyanarayana Puja and Katha
- Prayers to Chitragupta
We welcome devotees to join with family and friends to seek blessings of Lord Ganesha, Navagraha, Sri Satyanarayana and Chitragupta. The temple is located at 206 Vanderbilt Avenue, at the corner of Willoughby in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, 11205.
